A Christmas in Marseille

Pictures include Christmas diner with the Gildard family and fellow American friends who stayed in Marseille over Christmas; Christmas meal aperitif (appetizers before the main meal – a typical French tradition); Coquilage  – the Coquilage stands are where you buy your shellfish and mostly oysters; having oysters for an aperitif for the Christmas day or Christmas eve meal is a big thing here; Some Christmas shopping with Jamie and Jacki Gildard (couple who I work with) at a market – Cour Julien “marche”; Holy, an important member of the Gildard family; also, my mini-buche de Noel – a French tradition of a cake that looks like a tree stump – “une buche.”   We had our Christmas meal on Christmas day, but many of the French have their big meal and celebration on Christmas eve.
